His popularity and appeal spans all generations, won over by a musical style that is timeless in its appeal. Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto, the son of an italian immigrant, in Queens, New York, in 1926, he became Tony Bennett in 1949 after comedian Bob Hope saw him singing in a club and suggested a change of name.
