Burger gab sein Debüt 1961 als Zeitungsjunge in Unsere kleine Stadt (mit Cordula Trantow). In der Folge war er in einigen Fernsehserien zu sehen (darunter Die Höhlenkinder (1962), Wildbach, Komödienstadel und Um Himmels Willen), vor allem aber in zahlreichen Filmen. 1972 spielte er an der Seite von Klaus Maria Brandauerin Oscar Wilde, 1986 neben Christopher Lee in Der Verräter. Regelmäßig wirkt der Schauspieler an französischen Produktionen mit.

Holy Land (2010)
Set in the 1800s when Napoleon’s French ruled Europe, the film follows young Austrian carpenter Franz and his Bavarian wife, Katharina as an unforeseen event forces them to flee from Augsburg, Bavaria for Franz’s family home in Tyrol, Austria. Tyrolian sentiment is rising strongly against Napoleon and trouble is stirring. In no time it sweeps up Franz and his brothers along with the whole town.
