Acteur français d'origine néerlandaise, venu à Paris en 1950 à l'âge de 22 ans. Très tôt son spectacle fait le tour des cabarets parisiens, où il rencontre les "débutants" de l'époque : Jacques Brel (ils se parlent en flamand), Barbara, Gainsbourg, Moustaki, Poiret et Serrault... En 1964, il connaît un succès au Théâtre La Bruyère, avec les 250 représentations de L’Échappée belle.
